... severed Scared Oh for goodness sake, whatever next RollEyes

As some of you will recall I have had a few falls in recent months. No, nothing at all to do with Eleanor's special cake or the medicinal liquids, if only! Yes, I can be a little clumsy at times when things like feet and knees don't work quite as they should. Yes, carrying a tray of hot food upstairs to lazy son when one has one dodgy wrist and one replaced wrist is not to be recommended. This is especially so when aforementioned tray suddenly drops to the floor closely followed by the person carrying it, i.e. me! Consequence two sore hands and wrists.

Left wrist seems more painful and I'm despatched by GP for X-Ray. Radiographers are at a loss to understand the results which include a previously rebuild thumb joint (the bit that happens to be very painful) fused with various bits of bone. Another hospital is consulted and the outcome "we don't think there's any fracture, but keep an eye on it". Fortunately it has settled down with time, however ...

Right wrist is now a problem displaying a rather odd function that isn't present in my left wrist or any of the wrists of members of my family! Hmmm ... Another trip to the GP (not my own unfortunately!). Another X-ray. Result, "no change from previous x-ray of this wrist". What? Explain the swelling, the pain, the fact the bone is wonky! I visit my GP who finds my new found ability rather fascinating; I can move the ulna bone! That's the long bone that runs the length of the forearm from the elbow to the wrist on the little finger side. I have had this wrist replaced and I have severe ulnar deviation of the hand caused by subluxated metacarpal joints (knuckles, they need replacing so my hand can be straightened). The ulna should be attached by a medial ligament to some of the small bones of the wrist. Some of these were removed when the joint was replaced, but I don't know which ones! Even I didn't think to ask a question like that! It now appears I have a detached ulna and I'm referred back to the hand/wrist specialist. Watch this space!

Heyho, if I didn't have RA and all it's complications I would be bored silly ... chance would be a fine thing! Tongue

Oh, that really doesn't sound good. I think it probably needs examining by somebody with expertise in orthopedics. I wonder if more surgery is required. I am sending a hug and a prescription stating that it's your son's turn to pamper you! You've really made me rethink the way I carry hot drinks upstairs as my knee gives out and I tend to stumble too. The trouble is I love drinking tea in bed. It's going to have to be a flask from now on I think. I hope it feels better soon though I do expect further treatment might be required. Best wishes and keep us posted as I will be wondering about the final outcome. Naomi.

This is getting just plain stupid! How on earth can they NOT see there is a huge problem - especially if you can move the ulna (sounds horrid). Back to square one, I suppose. So sorry Lyn - you seem to be having more than your fair share of probs at the moment. Take care

Oh Lyn...

This sounds like the stuff of nightmares! How on earth can they not see, via the X-Ray's, what has happened to you? I feel very sorry for you and hope this can be resolved asap.

In the meantime, you may like ( or need) a thimbleful of the medicinal liquid!

Oh Lyn!
What were you doing struggling upstairs carrying a tray??????
You always sound the most wise and sensible of us on this forum!!!!!
Only joking, we all struggle to do things that we certainly should not be doing, but its a real pain when it goes wrong, in more ways than one!
Hope you get down to the root of the problem soon, and get it sorted. As you say, what else would we do with all this spare time.

Lyn

Sounds awful and you completely lost me on the medical jargon but I think I got the gist.

Yes I have one of those lazy teenagers. Mine is a girl and she knows I have real mobility problems but I still bow to her every need. How silly are we. He Ho what goes around comes around. I remember being exactly the same to my Mother and now my Mother is quietly laughing watching me.

Hope it gets sorted soon.

Really hoping those bones get sorted sooner rather than later, it sounds awful and must make you vary wary of trying to use the wrist.
best wishes

Hi guys

In case you're all thinking I do balancing acts with trays on stairs on a regular basis and would like tickets for my next performance I am sorry to disappoint! It was a 'one-off' special with two plates of spag bol and it happened in January. Only now it seems am I reaping the rewards for my momentary lapse in common sense! Waitress service was suspended indefinitely, I've taken on a waiter!!

Letter from the hospital today about my referral, whoop-de-doo .... .... Oh! It says,

"We are currently experiencing a higher volume than normal of referrals to this speciality, hence we have asked the Directorate Manager responsible for this service to supply extra capacity in order to accommodate your request." And a load more hogwash!

Anyway no worries, looks like they're going to employ an extra Orthopaedic surgeon "to accommodate my request"?

Lucky me!! RollEyes

Morning Lyn

Sorry for catching up so late with your posts, been " up to my eyeballs " with family issues, very draining LOL Luckily nothing to do with my two children.

Having all these problems really needs an urgent visit to your consultant, it really is not good enough to be fobbed off like this. In the past I ve had lumps and bumps on hands/wrist and fortunately the consultant had the use of an ultra scan which I thought was very useful.

Keep us posted !

Looks like you've overwhelmed them Lyn and they need to employ an extra surgeon just for you!BigGrin

With a bit of luck he'll be tall, dark and handsome!

Hope they get onto it very soon!

Just read your goings on Lyn, what a performance. One from you doing your antics on the stairs (silly girl), the other your letter from the hospital. You would of thought that they would of been abit more sympathetic with how they worded it. 'Experiencing a high volume', ...sounds like you were on the phone to a call centre, at least they did not ask you to try again later. Agree with what you said more hogwash. I like the bit about a new surgeon to accommodate your new request. It's not a request it's a need!!!!

Hope your request is put to the top of the pile and your wish is granted!!!!

Take Care
